Hypocrisy is the Attitude of Hiding Consciousness of Evil
From Universe of the Spirits, by Norberto Keppe
There is an enormous difference between the psychological work we do here and the work of other psychotherapists; while our efforts are employed totally in trying to lead the client to the consciousness of his errors, in general the majority of psychoanalysts are concerned with trying to correct errors, and this increases hypocrisy a lot. I can also state that Freud actually showed enormous religiosity when he proposed that illness stems from the behavior of hiding evil, for this is the basis of both Christianity and Judaism.
– Dr. Keppe, I think that Freud based his work on Christianity.
– How so? – He showed that sickness stems from hypocrisy, exactly as Jesus taught. In general, the human being also carries a corrupted nature, and this is the reason he exhibits all his vices. We must, therefore, consider virtue to be the attitude of containing evil and not the attempt to look perfect, which would be hypocritical.
– Most people believe that psychological problems can simply be thrown away, like flushing the toilet.
– What has led you to this idea?
– I’ve been reading about how Freud came to his conclusions and how they showed us that people hide their bad intentions, which leads to their illness.
– Freud was showing us how human beings create masks and pretend to be someone else. The reader may note the connection that Freud made between Christianity and science in his assertion that it is our unaccepted bad intentions that generate all disease. And what is most important is to see that such behavior goes unperceived. It seems that above all other human problems is this one that destroys civilization and the human being himself: hypocrisy, which has the power to eliminate all reality. And how to relate to hypocritical behavior if it is actually the absence of behavior? The degree of hypocrisy determines the validity of a person’s knowledge or action, and this means that it is fundamental to recognize what is sane or sick in any person in any field of activity.
– I am seeing my boyfriend totally differently from the way I saw him before.
– How so? – He wants to see himself as perfect, but he is actually very selfish and always thinks he is right.
– This reveals that, through your analysis, you are seeing pathology better—not only your own but also the pathology of others, including your boyfriend. The only way for the human being to understand others and the world is to know how he himself is. In seeing our virtues a little we learn something about the Divine Being, and in understanding all of our defects we can have a tiny glimpse into the wickedness of the evil spirits and of all the individuals who are in this world to destroy it.
